The Credo of the African Engineering Practitioner

I am an Engineering practitioner and my profession I and in my profession I take deep pride. To it, I owe solemn obligations.

Since the origins of humanity, human progress has been spurred by the engineering genius. The engineering profession has made usable nature’s vast resources of material and energy for humanity’s benefits. Engineering practitioners have vitalized, and turned to practice use, the principles of science and the means of technology. Were if not for this heritage of accumulated experience, my efforts would be feeble.

I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect, and to uphold devotion to the standards and dignity of my profession, conscious always that my skill carries with it, the obligation to serve the public good, by making the most sustainable use of earth’s precious resources.

I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and knowledge shall be given without reservation. In the performance of duty and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give the utmost.

What is SAICE?
It stands for "South African Institution of Civil Engineers". SAICE is a professional society who's mission is to advance professional knowledge and improve the practice of civil engineering.
The society performs on corporate governance and allows for career guidance, continuous professional development (CPD), and training of it's members as well as many other services (including events, awards and competitions specifically for civil engineering practitioners).

SAICE has specialist divisions which include water engineering, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and environmental engineering, among many others.

How is SAICE different to ECSA - the Engineering Council of South Africa? SAICE is a voluntary, not for profit association whereas ECSA is a statutory institution which guards the standards of engineering in South Africa.
